“My definition of smart design is a blend of efficiency, practicality, style and affordability.” - ashley byers

ashley Byers has been in the design industry for ten years. Starting out as a resource librarian at a local contract furniture dealership while in design school, she was able to absorb much of her vast knowledge of the contract furniture industry. Then after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design at The University of Texas at Austin she progressed into a design position at the same dealership, later becoming lead designer on a high-profile project team and then supervisor of the corporate accounts design team. After moving on to another local contract furniture dealership, Ashley worked as a senior designer handling design projects for as many as 15 account managers at a time.

through recommendation, Ashley was hired by one of the largest and most prestigious architecture and design firms in Austin as a furniture specialist for their interior design studio. Via natural progression, furniture specification became only a fraction of her job description. She quickly became versed in all phases of the commercial design process, facilitating projects from initial programming all the way through construction administration.

over her career, Ashley has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clientele including corporations, government agencies, academic entities and non-profit organizations. Her portfolio includes projects for Dell, Capital Metro, The University of Texas, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Make A Wish Foundation and the Hill Country Galleria.

“Spending over six years as a designer for two major contract furniture dealerships in town has given me an exceptional understanding of efficient space planning and how to use furniture in creative ways to meet a wide range of needs. You would be amazed at the difference a great furniture layout can make.

ab13 Design, Ashley’s newest endeavor, is a chance for her to try to dispel some of the myths surrounding interior design and make it accessible, especially as it relates to businesses. Her professional experience thus far has allowed her to recognize the need for affordable, practical interior design in the commercial realm. Her down-to-earth approach to design is something that sets her apart in her field.
