I am a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. After working as a designer in the contract furniture industry for over 6 years, I took a position with an architecture and design firm and eventually began my own company, ab13 Design, Inc. in 2008. I was born in Arkansas, grew up in East Texas, but call Austin home. I have lived in Austin for over 15 years with my husband (and high-school sweetheart) Marc. We have two wonderful, energetic boys, and two old, cranky (but much loved) dogs.
design philosophy
Great interior design doesn't have to be flashy or expensive. Often the simplest design is the best one, but sometimes it's not...good designers know the difference. Form should always follow function when it comes to spaces people occupy and that's the philosophy I work by in all of my projects.
the number 13
One of my most frequently asked questions is "What's with the number 13 in your company name?" Quite simply, it's a recurring number that has shown up in a lot of good places in my life. Superstition designates it as an unlucky number, but for me it's been quite the opposite. Over the years I've grown to embrace the number 13, not as a "lucky" number necessarily, but more as a "counter-superstitous" statement. For me it symbolizes good things in the past and good things to come.
